Techniques in Bell Ringing

Ring: Ring bell - often used following another technique, such as pluck
Pluck: Lay the bell on the foam and lift the clapper and let it drop.
Thumb Damp: With a glove on lay your thumb on the bell as you shake it
Martellato: Hit the bell into the foam from a height of about 4 inches
Tie: Ring the first note but do not ring the second, letting the sound continue through the value of both notes.
Shake: Shake the bell so that the clapper rapidly and repeatedly re-strikes both sides of the bell.
Let Vibrate (LV): Let bells vibrate or continue to sound without damping, disregarding note values and rests.
Damp: Damp all bells sounding.
Tower Swing or Toll: Ring bell in normal way, then swing it at the side of your body in the direction the arrows indicate.
Mal or +: suspended mallet, hold bell up by handle and strike bell with a mallet
